In Aaiyyanism Ayyappan (or Shasta) is known by many names: Aiyan (not to be confused with Murugan Aaiyyan), Aiyanar, and Shasta etc... In Dravidian Aaiyyani he is known as: Cattanaiyan and we will present the Cattanaiyan Yantra below.
For those of you who do not know Cattanaiyan (Shasta) is the son of Shiva and Vishnu (in the incarnation of Mohini). Thus he is a bridge between the Destroyer (Shiva) and the Preserver (Vishnu). He is a link between different aspects of Brahman and is a merging of both sides of creation. Thus, he is the God of Self Control and represents the direct truth and cosmic law (Dharma). Cattanaiyan is also celibate, so to link with him you must abstain from intimate relations for 24 hours before attempting to summon. You must also abstain from meat and any intoxicants also for 1 day before attempting to communicate and link with Cattanaiyan.
Cattanaiyan also represents growth and the spontaneous, as this is how Shiva and Mohini (Vishnu) came to create Cattanaiyan. According to Aaiyyanist tradition Shiva once viewing the beauty of Mohini (Vishnu), was so seduced that both Gods formed a union of which Cattanaiyan was created via Shiva's seed inside Mohini. Shiva knows that Mohini is Vishnu and both understand that there is fluidity in all aspects of love, sexual union and creation.
If you wish to master the right hand path of Aaiyyanism one must commune with Guru Asha Saptrishi as we mentioned in the previous newsletter. But the next stage is mastering self control and allowing yourself to link with aspects of both Shiva and Vishnu (in the form of Mohini). This can be achieved by drawing the Cattanaiyan Yantra below.
This is the Cattanaiyan Yantra and is used to summon Cattanaiyan (Ayyappan/Shasta) and opens the Cattanaiyan Loka dimension. In the daytime when the sun is at its highest point, draw the Yantra you see here. Note: this is the basic form to achieve resonance. There are more complex forms of the full Cattanaiyan Yantra.
As you draw it you can also chant the mantra of 'Cattanaiyan' over and over. We summon at daytime, as the Sun God Surya lends his positive energy to you to amplify the process. In fact do this in full daylight in the sun. You may draw on the ground using a stick or an Aaiyyan stick (inscribed with the Cattanaiyan Yantra) . You can also do this using pen (Indian ink) on paper, or paint on canvas, or charcoal on paper or canvas.
The more times you draw the Yantra, the more attuned you will become. If you can memorise the Yantra and draw it by heart, this is a good indication that you are becoming more attuned. As you draw the Yantra and chant the Mantra. You will eventually come into contact with the God Cattanaiyan and understand righteousness, truth and cosmic order. The aim though is not to remain separate, but to embrace and merge into one new holistic being. Once you draw, chant and ultimately link with Cattanaiyan, in this merged form you will have aspects of Shiva from the masculine form and the feminine aspects of Vishnu.
In the next section we will teach you how to summon Mohini.
